Template synthesis of Cu(Ii), Co(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Zn(II) And Cd(II) Complexes of 2-Aminophenol in presence of 4-Benzyloxybenzaldehyde and 2-Butenal

Abstract
Reaction of 2-aminophenol with Cu(II), Co(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions in presence of 4-benzyloxybenzaldehyde and 2-butenal yields the complexes [Cu(L)2] 1, [Co(L)2(H2O)2] 2, [Fe(L)2(H2O)Cl] 3, [Mn(L)2(H2O)2] 4, [Zn(L)2] 5, [Cd(L)2] 6, [Cu(L')2] 7, [Co(L')2(H2O)2] 8, [Fe(L')2(H2O)Cl] 9, [Mn(L')2(H2O)2] 10, [Zn(L')2] 11 and [Cd(L')2] 12 (where L = C6H5CH2OC6H4CH=NC6H4O and L' = CH3CHCHCH=NC6H4O). The complexes have been formed by template method, not via ligand formation. Complexes 1 and 7 are square planar, 2-4 and 8-10 are octahedral and 5-6 and 11-12 are tetrahedral in nature. Nickel(II) does not form complexes under the experimental condition. All the complexes are biologically active against six pathogenic bacteria (S. dysenteria, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, S. lutea and S. aureus). Complexes 1, 2, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12 show good activity as compared to the ligand precursor, 2-aminophenol, with complex 10 showing the best activity (MIC of complex 10 = 16 μg/mL for S. dysenteria and B. subtilies).
